An itty bitty book for William

I decided to make something for my little guy, William. I plan on making one for my other son, but probably something to do with cars, pirates or robots. This little book was created using Nancy Kubo's Little Dreamland kits. I printed all the parts out on matte photo paper and glued them down onto 4"x4" chipboard. I used my bind-it-all to bind the pages.

Strawberry mice taste nice!

I made these cute little strawberry mice today for my boys. You can find the recipe and directions here on the FamilyFun website.

Wintry snacks

I'm not sure if the snow in our yard will ever melt, especially since they're calling for more snow. The stuff out there now is so rock hard that the dog walks on top of it. I guess if we're going to be cooped up in the house all the time we might as well make some tasty treats. Our first treat is supposed to be a snowflake. You need large and small marshmallows, pretzel sticks and white candy melts. The pretzels were a bit of a doozy to get into the little marshmallows, but we managed. I think it took my 4 year old about .2 seconds to inhale this.
This next snack is our very sad attempt at snowman cakeballs. We made a cake and then crumbled it up and mixed it with a can of cream cheese frosting. After they were formed into balls they spent some time in the freezer to get firm. Then we melted some white candy melts, I inserted a toothpick into the top of the small ball and went through a large ball and dipped them. They were kinda hard to dip since they were a bit heavy for the toothpick. I didn't have any cute hat candy so we settled for some kisses to cover up where the toothpick had been inserted (I removed it after they cooled). As sad looking as they are, my boys loved them.

My two year old has to lick new things before he commits to biting into it, I know, he's unique :o)

A Dino-mite Card

I made this card a while back for stamp club. We had learned the masking technique and at each stamp club meeting we would do a card swap with a particular theme.

A digi-altered notebook

I saw in my January issue of Creating Keepsakes an altered notebook using a digital kit that I just happened to have. I loved the idea and set forth to make one for myself. My little guy is due in 7 weeks so I thought I would make a boy themed journal (I have both digi paper sets). This was really my first attempt at altering a notebook and I wish now that I had moved the animal paper over a bit closer to the edge. I'll probably have to make another one since I know that will bug me every time I look at it. That's the beauty of digital scrapbooking, you can always print out more paper. The kit I used is Mod Bebe Boy by Andrea Victoria. You can find it here. And the circle with 'notes' around it came from a free kit you can download here.

Another purse

I just wanted to share a purse that I made a while back. I never actually finished it as you can see in the picture. I was supposed to put a magnetic thingy so you could close it, but that never happened. The pattern came from here. It's a PDF pattern for the City Tote. Thanks for looking!

Penguin Treats

Another recipe from my kiddos' cookbook. We made penguin treats tonight after dinner. I've never seen my child so motivated to clean up the playroom :o) These treats only require some Oreos, candy corn, mini M&M's (or some round colored candy) and frosting. I think he could almost pass for an owl.

Kids in the Kitchen

I was inspired by some new-found blogs recently where they show different kid-friendly recipes. They brought to mind a book that I had from when I taught kindergarten. It's called Look n' Cook and it's published by the Mailbox company. They publish all kinds of awesome teacher materials that range from preschool-intermediate grades. Even though I'm not teaching, I still subscribe to their preschool and kindergarten magazines since I have my own munchkins to prepare for kindergarten. So I found my book and showed my four year old son and he was super excited to start making some snacks. The book is great because each snack is made using a few very common ingredients and they offer step-by-step pictures for how to create the snack. The snacks are intended for your child to make, some may require adult prep, but they're easy enough for little ones to make.

These are the pages we used to make the Hibernation Creation.

Here is my son's creation.

Here's mine :o)

Yum, yum!

These are snowman heads we made the other day.
