A question for my readers

I am trying to start a craft club with my spouses' group. I have been searching online for ideas but I'm not finding much. So I thought I would ask you! My plan is to have it once a month in the evening when the hubby's can watch the kiddies. There would be a hostess who would hopefully provide some snacks and drinks and of course, their home. Now, here's where things get tricky. I read one idea about everyone paying the hostess and the hostess gathering all the necessary materials. My other idea was that you send out the materials list ahead of time and everyone gets their own stuff and then you pool the big resources, like sewing machines or scissors. Which do you think would work out better? If anyone has any ideas to share I would love to hear them!

Personally, I like the idea of giving out a materials list ahead of time. It also always for some to be creative about color choices, etc. about some materials. It also seems to me that it would even out the cost a little better. Good Luck!

I had a friend start up a group like that here and they also did the material list. That way each person could pick what they needed in their own style. And, for us, it was nice not having each craft break the bank while you were waiting for some to pay you back. :) Have fun! Be sure to post pictures of the crafts you make!

I would much rather get the list ahead of time and use coupons, or be able to get the style of thing I want - if there is an option. Sounds like a great time!

I think that is a great idea! This is how we did ours...the host would plan 3-4 crafts. She would then send out pictures of the craft and how much it would be to make one. We would decide if a) we wanted to do that craft and b) how many we wanted to make. Sometimes I would only do one of the four crafts but make 10 of them to use as gifts. Usually I try to make at least one of each and then more of my favorites. The hostess would buy all the supplies depending on how many each person wanted to make. When we got to her house we each would have a little tub with all of our stuff. The only material list we had was crafting items to bring from home (scissors, adhesives, etc) If bigger items were needed (sewing machine, iron etc) the hostess would ask anyone who wanted to loan their item to bring it. As far as food, etc. We would each bring an appetizer dish and the hostess was responsible for drinks and paper goods. Have fun! I would love to hear what you decide.

A blogging friend has everyone give $20-$30 and that covers all the supplies for 3-4 crafts as well as food. She sends out a list of crafting tools that they need to bring (scissors, tape, etc)

A materials list would be better and than each could buy their own material and use coupons and such if they had them.

I am toying with the idea of doing something similar as well. Maybe if people wanted to bring their own supplies they could but others could sign up for the hostess to buy them and pay when they arrive. I have spent the better part of the morning looking for the best deals for craft supplies.

Bizzy Bee said one group paid $20-30 each, which I think is kind of pricey (unless it's just once or twice a year). The crafts I would do would be cheaper and trying to use reuse items people already might have.

I'd love to hear the crafts the group comes up with!

We are doing a monthly card making club. This how we do it...6 people sign-up to bring the supplies to make 20-40 cards. The rest of the people (10-15) bring snacks, wine, drinks etc...We contribute money (couple of bucks every 2-3 months) to buy adhesive and bags to bring our projects home. Some people would have no idea how to set-up a card and are happy to bring the $10 food item. Others are happy to work cutting the card ($4-5)...so usually everyone is happy.

I've been doing this awhile and I found 2 things...most of my gals don't have the time to go and buy all the supplies. So we set the price per gathering at $15. The hostess provides snacks and refreshments. You must pre-pay for the project 1 wk prior. (Now we pre pay at the current gathering for the next class and give it to the next hostess) If you can't make it then you get the supplies and instructions and we always are avail for a private get-togethers anyhow. Hope this makes sense.

I am in a Cricut Crafts Club. We all bring our own supplies, and what one doesn't have we share with each other. One person teaches the project and someone brings snacks. It's a small group and we meet once a month. We also decided that we'll start emailing the project a week ahead so we'll know what to have on hand just in case. I think that works out better for us.
